Unearth your hidden treasures at the Arts Centre Gold Coast

Have you always wanted to know what that figurine, old brooch, movie poster or set of kitchen canisters might be worth? Could you be sitting on a fake or a fortune? Then bring along your heirlooms, collectables, antiques and memorabilia and join us for an Antiques and Collectibles Valuation Day on 28 October.

Dust off your trinkets and treasures to have them appraised by our special guest, Warren Joel, one of Australia’s most respected valuers, art consultants and auctioneers. Joel will publicly value items brought along, providing an entertaining story behind each piece in this Antiques roadshow style event.

Over the past 35 years, Warren Joel has built up a great wealth of knowledge and expertise in the valuation of fine arts. He has handled items for private collectors, leading art galleries, the government’s Cultural Gifts Program, the National Trust and valued the entire collection of the Australian National Museum.

‘You never know what might be uncovered. At similar events in other venues I have valued vases painted by Picasso, a $6,000 watch found in a junk shop and a monkey fur rug!,’ Mr Joel said.

The Valuation Day is presented as a fundraiser by the Friends of the Arts Centre Gold Coast with funds raised supporting Gold Coast City Gallery programs and acquisitions.

Gold Coast City Gallery Director, Tracy Cooper-Lavery, looks forward to this unique event. ‘It’s great to bring this unique and entertaining event to the Arts Centre, and the Gold Coast. Warren Joel recently valued the city’s $29 million dollar art collection so I know firsthand how professional and knowledgeable he is. I don’t think there is anyone better when it comes to this sort of work, and with his expertise I doubt there is any ancient heirloom he couldn’t accurately assess.’
