Valley Fiesta Returns To Rock The Block For A Four-Day Music Fest

It’s music to our ears, Valley Fiesta is back baby – thanks to the Brisbane City Council and QMusic – with a four-day line-up of live gigs across 14 venues from Thursday 19 November to Sunday 22 November 2020.

For more than two decades, Valley Fiesta has been Brisbane’s weekend-long extended party, showcasing the established and emerging talent of Fortitude Valley’s live music scene in new and heritage venues.

At this year’s Valley Fiesta, presented by Brisbane City Council and QMusic, music fans are invited to party-on-down to a jam-packed program of homegrown acts.

The first line-up release features an inspired mix of artists that includes local luminaries from legendary singer Robert Forster and ‘90s alt-rockers Screamfeeder to new talent including dance-punksters DZ Deathrays performing a special DJ set and singer-songwriter Jaguar Jonze.

Rounding out the all-Queensland line-up so far are indie rockers The Cairos, indie-folk singer-songwriter Greta Stanley, punk rockers Total Pace, local DJ Dameeeela, eclectic dance act First Beige, our first lady of song Kate Miller-Heidke, plus new Brisbane transplants, rock ingenues Tired Lion.

These stellar acts will be showcased on stage at top live music venues in and around Fortitude Valley, including Black Bear Lodge, The Brightside and The Brightside – Outdoors, O’Skulligans, The Tivoli and The Triffid.

With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing a shutdown of Brisbane’s beloved Fortitude Valley Live Entertainment Precinct earlier this year, there’s never been a better time to welcome people back to clubs and venues.

Brisbane City Council Community, Arts and Night-time Economy Chair Councillor Vicki Howard said Valley Fiesta provided a fantastic platform for the city’s emerging musical and creative talent in the world-renowned Fortitude Valley Live Entertainment Precinct.

“Having live music back in the Valley with the popular Valley Fiesta also means Brisbane is back in business, bringing people back into our venues,” Cr Howard said.

“We’re proud to continue to support the 24-hour economy in the Valley and celebrate our rich cultural heritage and emerging local talent.”

“The return of Valley Fiesta comes at a critical time for venues in the Fortitude Valley Live Entertainment Precinct who have been hit extremely hard after COVID-19 shutdowns and subsequent capacity restrictions,” QMusic CEO Angela Samut said.

“We are grateful for the support from Brisbane City Council and Councillor Vicki Howard who has a strong focus on our Community, Arts and Night-time Economy. This event has been solely orchestrated to enliven the Valley economy and get people back to frequenting live music again and celebrate Brisbane’s music scene and local heritage.”

Powderfinger and The Church guitarist and Valley Fiesta 2020 Ambassador Ian Haug said Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley has an international reputation as one of Australia’s premier entertainment precincts.

“From The Saints and The Go-Betweens to Regurgitator and Screamfeeder to DZ Deathrays, WAAX and The Cairos, Brisbane has been a long-time incubator of musical talent through live music venues and festivals,” he said.

“Brisbane has an amazing music heritage and I’m excited for this year’s Valley Fiesta program that looks back at our past as well as highlighting the fantastic new talent being nurtured in our city’s live music venues.”

According to the Economic and Cultural Value of Live Music in Australia 2014 report, live music attendance was identified by music lovers and venues as contributing to improved health and wellbeing. The report also noted that every dollar spent on live music equates to three dollars of benefit returned to the wider community.
