Vera Blue Releases New Single ‘The Way That You Love Me’

After teasing new music online last week, Vera Blue today reveals her brand new single ‘The Way That You Love Me’. It was premiered on triple j yesterday and will be performed live for the first time when Vera Blue hits the road next month for her 13-date The Way That You Love Me Tour.

Vera Blue says of her new single, “This song is the start of a new chapter, a new phase and a new story line. A fresh concept and sound inspired by the experiences and behaviours of loving relationships of people coming in and out of my life. A kind of love that can be taken advantage of or returned in ways that might be difficult to understand at the time. “

‘The Way That You Love Me’ was co-written and produced with Andy and Thom Mak whom Vera Blue worked with on her debut album Perennial. The single was written and recorded over the last few months in a small house overlooking Avoca Beach on the New South Wales Central Coast.

“Working with Andy, Thom and Jackson is where the magic happens as a collective,” continues Vera Blue. “We spend a whole lot of time laughing at each other but always end the day with something that we love. For this song we’ve pushed hard, throwing ourselves into darker sounds, recording techniques and lyrics that pull at your emotions in different ways than before. We are proud of this little beast and we are so excited to be able to share it with you.”

Producer Andy Mak adds, “Emotionally we wanted to create a sense of tension and unease, like something isn’t quite right in the world. It felt right to support that with tough beats, dark synths, choirs…. you know, all the emotional stuff! And then Celia gave the vocal performance of a lifetime in the chorus and at that point nothing really matters except her voice…her honesty and authenticity is what pulls you in, every time. Our goal with Vera Blue has always been the same; to be real, honest and to make you feel something. Celia had a cool concept for a song, so Thom jumped on an electric kit and I started jamming on a bass line and it all evolved from there. Everything’s played live in the track, we felt it suited the vibe of the song and kept it feeling authentic and a little loose.. We spent the last couple of months making music in a little house overlooking Avoca Beach. It’s a strange moment when you’re playing dark 808 bass lines whilst watching a pod of dolphins swim past…but I guess that’s just all part of the vibe”

The Way That You Love Me Tour will begin on Friday August 30th at the Snowtunes Music Festival in Jindabyne then finish on Sunday October 13th at Magnums Hotel in Airlie Beach. Vera Blue will head to Newcastle, Perth, Adelaide, Launceston, Hobart, Geelong, Wollongong, Cairns and Townsville and for the first time, travel to Wodonga, Coffs Harbour and Airlie Beach to perform new songs as well as music from her #6 charting ARIA Album Perennial and breakthrough debut EP Fingertips.

At the start of 2019, Vera Blue released the single ‘Like I Remember You’ teaming up for the first time with Julia Stone. The track was instantly added to triple j and used to promote Greenpeace’s ‘People vs Oil’ campaign. Invited to record for the prestigious Mahogany Sessions, Vera Blue released a stripped back version of her 2018 song ‘All The Pretty Girls’. She capped off 2018 with sold out shows across Australia, and the release of her Lady Powers Live At The Forum and the summery single ‘All The Pretty Girls’ which went on to be voted #26 on triple j’s hottest 100.
