WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK AT PALACE CINEMAS

Highlight

– Tickets are now on sale for the Scandinavian Film Festival screening from 16-26 July at Palace Centro and showcasing the most exciting dramas, comedies and thrillers from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland. The Festival will open with the uproarious Here Is Harold [MA15+], a Norwegian road movie, about a man who sets out to kidnap the founder of Ikea. More information here.

– Winner of ‘Best Film’ and ‘Best Environmental Film’ at the 2015 Byron Bay International Film Festival, Frackman [M] aims to spark a broad national conversation about coal seam gas development in Australia. The film releases exclusively to Palace Centro with special event screenings with Queensland producer, Trish Lake on 1, 15 & 22 July. More info here.

– National Theatre Live presents: Man and Superman [CTC] starring Academy Award® nominee Ralph Fiennes as Jack Tanner in this exhilarating reinvention of Shaw’s witty, provocative classic at Palace Centro on 27, 28 June & 1 July. More infomation here.

Far From The Madding Crowd [M] is our next Premiere Thursdays event on 25 June at Palace Centro. Based on the literary classic by Thomas Hardy, Carey Mulligan stars in this timeless story. Local Author Sally Piper will be in attendance on the night and will be introducing our Opening Night screening. Patrons can go in to the running to win a Classic Book Pack, courtesy of Mary Ryan’s and Fino Food+Wine will provide a complimentary cheese tasting on the evening! Fino believes really good food should be available and celebrated by all. It should be nibbled at each day, and in vast quantities on special occasions. Tickets available here.

– From the award winning team behind Senna comes Amy [MA15+], an Amy Winehouse documentary that explores the woman behind the name. Exclusive advanced screenings of the film will show this weekend 26, 27 & 28 June before release on July 2 at Palace Barracks and Centro. More info available here.

– James Bond willingly falls into an assassination ploy involving a naive Russian beauty in order to retrieve a Soviet encryption device that was stolen by SPECTRE in From Russia With Love (1963) [PG]. The film will screen 28 June at Palace Centro as part of Vintage Centro‘s June lineup. Full program here.

– Screening this week as part of our Babes in Arms on Thursday 25 June is Minions [PG] at Palace Barracks and Love & Mercy [M] at Palace Centro. Babes in Arms sessions screen every Thursday at 11am and are designed to make you and your baby more comfortable, with dimmed lights and lower sound. For the upcoming program visit here.

Reel Fashion, a collection of fashion films screening every Friday night from July to October launches 10 July at Palace Centro. The program opens with the extraordinary Women He’s Undressed [PG] which tells the Hollywood story of Australia’s Orry-Kelly, the designer whose costumes created some of the most magical moments in cinema history. – Written and directed by Woody Allen, Irrational Man [CTC] tells the story of a burned-out, brilliant professor – one who believes in lessons from life rather than textbooks – who takes a job at a small college and becomes involved with a teacher as well as a precocious student. – English National Opera presents: Pirates of Penzance [CTC], a story of the pirate apprentice Frederic and his love for Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley. The production is the UK’s most successful opera on screen event and will play at Palace Barracks from July 11. More info here.

– Helen Mirren reprises her role as Queen Elizabeth II in encore screenings of The Audience [CTC] playing as part of National Theatre Live at Palace Centro for one week only! From July 18 – more information here.

Ivan the Terrible [CTC] as presented by The Bolshoi Ballet debuts at Palace Centro on 20 June. The greatest ballet company in the world offers Australian audiences the opportunity to enjoy these outstanding performances. More information here.

– The Royal Ballet presents: La Fille Mal Gardee [CTC] as part of the Palace Opera & Ballet program on July 3, 4, 5 & 8. Frederick Ashton’s joyful ballet contains some of his most virtuoso choreography, and has been a firm favourite with audiences for over 50 years. Set in a storybook village, it follows the youthful affections of Lise and Colas under the nose of Lise’s larger-than-life mother, Widow Simone. More information about the program here.
