KATE CEBERANO IN BRISBANE THIS FRIDAY NIGHT 16th AUGUST WITH PAUL GRABOWSKY WITH THEIR CONCERT AND NEW ALUBM TRYST
ONE ON ONE QA WITH KATE CEBERANO
1. How did yourself and Paul Grabowsky come together to perform and work the album of Tryst?
We have been friends for the better part of our lives, creatively playing together across many stages, through many film scores and now on our first record.
It started on a Valentine’s Day a hundred years ago and has become a tradition amongst our family and friends. They suggest material they’d love to hear us perform, and each version of it is new and heartfelt! “Life songs” performed with LOVE!
2. How long did it take to produce the album and bring the selection of music together?
Just a brief soirée, maybe a couple of days in all, but has taken us many years to perfect the absence of inhibition and the intimacy that we can create together. I am LUCY to his Schroeder.
3. The show has a real mix of music iconic years and singers, is there one favorite song you sing on the night?
I’ve always loved Nina Simone’s “Wild is the wind”…. and Roberta’s “First time ever I saw your face”, but then again I’m obsessed with Cilla Black and Leonard Cohen!!!!! It’s difficult to choose a favourite.
4. What has maintained you to stay in the Music entertainment industry for so long?
My absolute interest and love of “being in the moment”, the razors edge with live music. It’s always ambitious and beyond your reach, perhaps that’s why it’s lasted so long.
5. Who are five of you top female singers you admired over your years?
Dusty Springfield
Roberta Flack
Aretha Franklin
Linda Ronstadt
Emmy Lou Harris
Nina Simone
Oh god, the list goes on and on ….!!!
Kate Ceberano and Paul Grabowsky are taking their first duo recording on the road with the Tryst and kick off in Brisbane, then Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide this coming August, September and November.

The Tryst tour is a very personal and intimate journey into words and music by two of Australia’s most respected musicians reinterpreting of some of the great love songs of our time. Kate and Paul deliver stripped back, soulful renditions of songs that have influenced both of them at some point in their lives.
Released by ABC/Universal Music Australia earlier this month, Tryst debuted in the Top 40 on the ARIA Physical Album Chart and Top 10 on the AIR Independent Albums Chart.
The repertoire on the Tryst Tour will be as diverse as love itself – from 60s pop with Cilla Black, to 80s Aussie rock with the Divinyls, with flirtations into jazz and chanson along the way – with the seed of this musical dalliance being planted over 20 years ago at a one-off St Valentine’s Day show at the legendary Melbourne venue ‘The Continental’.
