WOW: WOMEN OF THE WORLD FESTIVAL COMES TO BRISBANE

Originally created by Southbank Centre London WOW has become an annual flagship event held across the world and the upcoming Brisbane edition is a three day festival dedicated to: celebrating women’s achievements, discussing issues of relevance to women and girls as well as building strong communities of women.

In light of the recent interest in gender issues in the screen arts and broadcast sector which includes the most recent issue of AFTRS incredibly well received Women in Film edition of LUMINA we thought this festival, that celebrates women, was worth sharing with our Queensland subscribers.

WOW Brisbane 2015 includes panels and conversations, workshops, speed mentoring, WOW Bites an Under 10’s Feminist Corner and a Cultural Program and is taking place at Queensland University of Technology Gardens Point Campus.

The festival opens with a live ABC Life Matters broadcast from the festival stage with ABC Radio National presenter Natasha Mitchell and guests.

AFTRS’ CEO Sandra Levy and Chair Professor Julianne Schultz are panelists in the AFTRS sponsored Saturday session ‘What IS She Wearing?’ which looks at assumptions about women.

Other speakers for the What IS She Wearing? session include press secretary for former Prime Minister Julia Gillard Laura Chalmers and ABC Radio Presenter Rhianna Patrick with the session being chaired by Professor Julianne Schultz, the founding editor of Griffith Review and the Chair of AFTRS.

What IS She Wearing: Saturday 20 June 2.30pm-3.30pm
Festival Dates: Friday 19 – Sunday 21 June, QUT Gardens Point campus and QPAC, 2 George Street, Brisbane
